ALL ABOUT RFID

RFID
Radio Frequency IdentificationRFID is a wireless communication technology to uniquely identify assets or people.
BAP
Battery Assisted PassiveBattery Assist Passive RFID is passive RFID equipped with an additional battery providing extended read ranges and allowing for some data logging (typically temperature / humidity) even when tags are not within read range.
RTLS
Real Time Locate SystemsReal Time Locate Systems are systems (either passive or active) that provide some for of location information in 1D – 2D or 3D where a unique asset is within a confined (covered) area.
RSSI
Radio Signal Strength IndicatorThe radio signal strength indicator is a value that provides an indication of the strength a signal at a specific distance from the transmit/receive point.   Although it allows for rough distance ranging, it is very much depending on many environmental facts and as such in many cases should not be used as a highly reliable indicator of distance / location.
LLRP
Low Level Reader ProtocolThe LLRP is a protocol, ratified by EPCGlobal in 2007, that is intended to standardize the network interface of the RFID readers to allow developers to have a common programmatic interface to the readers for different manufacturers.   (http://llrp.org/)
RTI
Returnable Transport Items RTI’s are items to move materials (parts, tools, goods) between locations and can re-used over and over again.      Most of the time they are used in closed loop logistics where they move between the ‘field’  and a central location.   Examples of RTI’s include bins, kegs, pallets, racks,…
DOGBONE TAG
A dogbone tag is a tag of which the shape of the antenna looks like a dogbone (see picture below).    These types of tags seem to have a good tolerance against the detuning effect of high di-electric materials making it a very interesting tag for global supply chain and RTI solutions
FROG TAG
A frog tag looks like a four-leaf clover, because of its design it seems to be completely orientation insensitive
FLAG TAG
Flag tags are tags of which part of the label can be folded out like a flag to improve read performance on difficult materials like metals or liquids, or possible also difficult curve surfaces
